Tea Break Tour with Tatum
Tea Break Tour is all about the people behind our brands. Every show, every story and every connection with our audiences starts with a person and this series is a chance to pause, put the kettle on and recognise the talent and creativity that brings Bauer to life. From audio and publishing to teams across the wider business, Tea Break Tour celebrates the personalities you hear, read and see every day, sharing the stories and moments you don’t always get when the mic is live or the day gets busy.
Tatum takes on the Tea Break Tour! Over a tea break, the KISS presenter shares what life behind the mic really looks like – from the prep that goes into every show to the unexpected on-air moments that keep things interesting. With her show centred around the listener, Tatum talks about being a voice people can turn to, and why it’s always all about the audience.
First off, how do you take your tea?Â
I’m going to be controversial here and say that I don’t actually have tea very often. I’m a bit of a fake northerner. So if I’m going to do a tea, I’ll probably go for a peppermint.
You’re on KISS every day – how would you describe your show in three words?Â
All about you. Because my biggest thing with my show is that it’s all about the person listening. I’d also add nonsense… because there’s a lot of that on the show too.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to hear happens behind the mic?Â
I think a lot of people assume I just lift up the mic and chat rubbish, but actually a lot of prep goes into the show. I need to know what’s going on in the world and what people are doing in their day-to-day lives. I’ve got a notes section on my phone where I’m constantly writing things down – that’s what I’m going to talk about on the show.
What do you love most about your job?Â
I love the fact that I’m just company for the person listening. Whether you’re working, walking the dog or just doom scrolling on your phone, I’m there – like your little pal keeping you company.
You’ve had some amazing guests on KISS, but if you could interview anyone, who would it be?Â
I’d love to meet The Rock. I think he just comes across like a laugh. And us two stood next to each other would be slightly iconic because I’m 4’11 and he’s about 7′ tall.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?Â
My first job in radio. It was an apprenticeship where you had to win the role and hundreds of people applied. I was the one who got picked and over a decade later, I’m still in radio, which feels pretty special.
So many funny things must happen on the show – do you have a favourite moment?Â
That’s like asking me to pick my favourite child. A recent one was when a listener called in to say her nan was getting her first tattoo… a butterfly on her backside. And she did send pictures.
What’s one thing listeners might not know about you?Â
Probably what I look like. You just hear my voice on the radio, so people build up an image. Someone once said they thought I’d be really tall and like a surfer chick – I couldn’t be more opposite.
Before you head into the studio, what’s the ultimate tea break snack?Â
A biscuit cakey bar is so underrated – like a Jaffa Cake bar or a mini roll. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll do a chocolate digestive, but a cake bar with a peppermint tea… chef’s kiss.
